The ratio of teacher to student at MABC is 1:10. The Montessori teacher (or "directress") functions as a designer of the environment, resource person, role model, demonstrator, record-keeper and meticulous observer of each child's behavior and growth. The teacher facilitates learning.

MABC, like Montessori, uses The Whole Child Approach. As well as traditional studies like math and reading, practical life is also addressed. For example, activities are designed to help a child carry things without dropping them or pour liquid out of a pitcher without spilling.

Materials are arranged on low shelves, and each material isolates one concept or skill. Each has been designed so well that a child is naturally drawn to work with it.

MABC pre-school is for children who are 2 1/2 - 6 years old.

Montessori Academy of Bear Creek's pre-school classroom:
• Is specifically prepared for the child "to cultivate his own natural desire to learn."
• Is an individualized program that is child-paced to meet each child's social, emotional, physical and academic needs.
• Provides an opportunity for each child to reach his full potential in all areas of life.
• Provides an environment for experience, exploration and discovery in a "hands-on" setting.

The Montessori classroom is a "living room" for children. Children choose their activities from open shelves with self-correcting materials and work in distinct work areas - on tables or on rugs on the floor. Over a period of time, the children develop into a "normalized community" working with high concentration and few interruptions.

The Montessori Academy of Bear Creek pre-school classroom includes the following components:
• The practical life exercises enhance the development of task organization and cognitive order through care of self, care of the environment, exercises of grace and courtesy, and refinement of physical movement and coordination.
• The sensorial materials enable the child to order, classify, seriate, and describe sensory impressions in relation, length, width, temperature, mass, color, etc.
• The Montessori math materials, through concrete manipulative materials, allow the child to internalize the concepts of number, symbol, sequence, operations, and memorization of basic facts.
• The language work includes oral language development, written expression, reading, the study of grammar, creative dramatics, and children's literature.
• The child is also presented with geography, history, life sciences, music, art, and movement education.
